OAK FURNITURELAND: CONNOR!

Take a look at Ology Superstar Connor in the brand new Oak Furnitureland TV commercial!!

“It was great. A really good introduction into the industry, as it was my first commercial. All the cast and crew were really really nice. I had a great time.”

It was a Wednesday and I got the whole day out of school. I arrived at the location on the booking form and it’s like a sports club, so we’re thinking this is a strange place to be filming. Turns out, that’s where we all meet and then they take us on minibuses to the location. But there was a big red bus, like the ones in London, where we’d have our food later on in the day. My mum and I were escorted to the location in our own minibus, we felt like royalty! Just outside of the massive house where we’re going to be filming, there was a massive van with the back open and spread across the walls were cameras and stands and so much wiring and equipment it was unbelievable! When we got inside, just across from the room we were filming in was the kitchen. In there, there was a chef preparing the Christmas dinner, glazing it all with chemicals to make it more shiny and to last the length of the filming! So when we were filming we couldn’t eat any of it (which was a real waste!).

In the filming room there was a giant camera, facing the Oak Furniture Land extendable table, the main scene in the advert! The director sat next to me with a TV screen seeing where all the cameras were focused. One camera was placed on a mini railway track that another person would pull along. Before we started filming, all of the actors went up into the top bedroom where we got to know each other while everything was being set-up.

When we started filming, they would do each shot over and over again, so that they could get more than one of just the right thing and we had to do the exact same thing over and over again, unless we had a good idea then we tried that. However, every couple of shots the make-up crew would burst in, redo our hair and touch up our make-up and then run out, in a matter of seconds!

What was really funny was the scene where the ‘nan’ walks in and has a really sad face because we’ve forgotten her, and we’re all looking at her in a really awkward situation. But her face was really cute as she looks upset and I can see my ‘dad’ in the shoot holding back laughing, so we both, at the same time, burst out laughing and then everyone else joins in, clearly because we all found it so funny.

It was a really amazing day and I’m so glad I got to have all of this experience!” – Connor Bell – age 14
